Good morning Honourable Mayor Kyritsis:

I wanted to extend my thanks to you, Georges and the people of Kos, for the opportunity of visiting your beautiful island for the International Health Film Festival. It was an amazing experience for me as a doctor to be able to partake in the viewing of such enlightening and informative documentaries. The exchange of medical and wellness information was overwhelming and much appreciated. The experience in viewing these has now given me the opportunity to have some of these documentaries available at my Health Centre to continue to educate the general public and support them in being proactive with their health care.

Greece was always at the forefront of medicine. First in allopathic medicine and the Hippocratic Oath that doctors world wide vow to maintain, and again, your people continue to be at the forefront with hosting the International Health Film Festival. I can honestly say that I am very much looking forward to being a part of the Festival again next year.

Warmest wishes and keep up the excellent work of continually educating the international health practitioners community.

Dear Sir

I recently attended the Second International Health Film Festival in the glorious island of KOS, and I must tell you it was a stunning experience for me altogether.

I have been involved in the international film industry for over thirty years. Specifically, I have worked with film festivals all over the world, including festival events with the United Nations. I am writing to congratulate you on your vision and prescience in supporting this ground breaking festival event.

First of all, there is no other festival in the world that has been designed to focus directly on issues of health and wellness. We are at a pivotal time on our planet and more and more people are becoming aware of the toxins, the poisons, and the environmental destruction that surrounds our daily lives. Lucia Rikaki has put her finger on a powerful and vibrant pulse of consciousness that is rapidly developing. People are waking up and are demanding to know more about how our food is grown, where our water source comes from - and in short –people are finally taking responsibility for their own health wherever possible.

There was a very accomplished group of international visitors at the festivals, and throughout the week I heard on-going discussions about how to sustain the tradition of this festival, how to secure some of these important films for our own communities, and how to assist in the expansion of this festival event. Lucia Rikaki assembled a stellar group of film makers, festival directors, and medical people – drawn from all over the world- and all of us were excited by the films and tapes that we had the privileged to screen.

I applaud you for your initiative and your support of this extremely important event and I urge you to continue your support. You will be contributing to an extremely potent cause, and at the same time, you will be building tourism in your island. For example, I was on the Jury this year. I travelled with two friends from Toronto – one a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the other, a highly accomplished feature film producer. Both will return as members of the jury for 2011, and I will return as a festival delegate, because I am determined to know all I can about issues of health and wellness. I have already invited four filmmakers to accompany me to Kos, to watch the films, and to learn from the spirit of Hippocrates.

Please continue your support Sir. We all thank you, and applaud your courage and vision.

Warm greetings

Hannah Fisher

Dear Lucia,
I write from New Delhi. And I took a while to write because the experience of Kos had to settle in, to become internalised. I have raved enough about Kos and your festival. But apart from the festival I also brought the sea back with me :-)

Thank you so very much for letting me be a part of the fabulous experience of your festival. I find your festival is unique for so many different reasons. Not just because it the only festival on health, but the vision that made you do something so stunning which at the same time is also very simple, is indeed extraordinary. Now that you have done so it seems but obvious that Kos, given its history, needed a film festival on Health. And yet, till you did it, it didn't exist in any one's imagination. And that is pioneering work indeed.

I am also deeply inspired by the meticulous planning, your attention to details, and by the festival atmosphere that is so welcoming and enveloping. One felt very welcomed, happy and looked after. So thank you.

And I wish you much luck, great success and many, many great honours ahead. I can see that the festival which is just germinating will grow into a strong tree with deep roots that will be able to spawn different creative energies and also shelter filmmaker/ artists by providing an intimate space to meet, be inspired and learn.

warmly,

Dear Lucia,

It’s already more than 2 weeks since I came back from Kos. And still I think a lot of your wonderful festival, all the interesting films I’ve seen, the wonderful people I met and the beautiful island I discovered.

This festival was truly amazing ! And this is only thanks to you and your great team !

It was such an honor to be invited and to take part in the festival. I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You have all done a really great job – and I know it was very tiring!

All the best for you, all the staff I’ve met (Elena, Eliana, Karina, Ilira, Janna…) and the festival in its whole!

I really hope to be able to come back one day.

Best regards from Belgium,

Jara Malevez

Dear Lukia,

At last, a long-overdue thank you for your incredible festival. I am finally getting back to "normal" after recovering from jetlag (and some medical treatments) after our trip. We were lucky enough be be able to spend several more days on Kos after the festival, a couple days on Kalymnos, and a few days in Athens (where we got together with several of our new festival friends).

We want to express our thanks and gratitude for a truly remarkable, thoughtful, and thought-provoking festival. We were impressed by the depth of all the discussions and dialogue which the films raised, and the interactions between and among filmmakers and audience members with varied backgrounds and interests. There was so much to ponder, and we will continue to think about the films and our experiences for a long while. It was also wonderful to be part of what feels like a festival "family," and we felt very welcomed by your wonderful festival team.

Thank you again for all your hard work and vision to make this amazing festival a reality.

With best wishes,

Karen Aqua & Ken Field

Dear Mayor Kyritsis,

It has now been one month since I left Kos and the memory of your magnificent island is still with me.

I am writing to commend you on sponsoring an event that not only echo’s your island’s unique history as the birth place of Hippocrates and modern medicine, but actually honours it. It is said that all great societies are measured by their culture. The Kos Health Film Festival reflects your foresight in recognizing that such an important cultural event focuses an international spotlight on Kos and, in turn, “puts it on the map”, expanding its notoriety and tourism.

I have spoken to many about my experience in Kos, and have recommended it as a must visit vacation spot. I have no doubt that many of my film colleagues at Kos have done the same.

In my role as Producer of many feature films and documentaries through my company Capri Films Inc. as well as a Distributor through Capri Releasing Inc., I regularly attend festivals around the world both as an exhibitor and buyer. I found the Kos Festival well managed both in film exhibition and related events, with films of top quality.

While I am born in Italy, and do much business with Europe, I am based in Toronto and have watched the growth of the Toronto International Film Festival over the last 34 years grow steadily to become one of the most important film festivals in the world, on par with the Cannes International Film Festival. In turn, I can see that, by word of mouth, the Kos film festival will continue to grow, and become one of the premier events of the Island.

When I was at the festival, I told the organizers how impressed I was that the governing body of Kos had such foresight and vision. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of the world.

Yours sincerely,

Gabriella Martinelli
President/CEO
